That’s Not Country

SHANE MCANALLY

In today’s episode, featuring hit songwriter/producer Shane McAnally, we look at why people love to say “that’s not country!” Especially on the internet. Why, exactly, do we get so defensive about what country music is, and isn’t? It’s like a “meet tweets” version of a podcast. And this week, for the very first time, we’ll be debuting the episode over at Taste Of Country where I’ll be guest blogging every other Thursday to accompany each new episode. I’m excited. But I’m trying to play it cool like I’m such a pro…..but I’M SUPER EXCITED about it.

Thankfully the fine people over at Taste of Country also have editors that help with my atrocious spelling and grammar.

So head on over to TOC for this week’s episode: That’s Not Country.

I think this may have been my favourite episode so far! I find it interesting that people are so quick to throw country artists under the bus for sounding pop-y (for lack of a better word), but then you have Lady Gaga’s latest song, Million Reasons, and people are commenting on how “country” it sounds. Ya can’t win.
