Podcast Episode 3 with Autumn House

We called this episode “How {Not} To Get A Record Deal” because I thought this was a fun way to come at the question of how exactly does someone get signed to a record deal?

Autumn House Tallant, VP of A&R at UMG, is one of the wittiest people I know, and I just knew she would have some great stories. She is surprisingly un-jaded about the process of discovering new music, and new artists–and that actually caught me a little off guard. I was struck be how seriously she takes new artist pitches: she’s acutely aware that she’s dealing with someone’s dream and that she has the power to help someone’s dream become reality. That’s a pretty huge responsibility. Based on our conversation, it’s clear she handles it with both grace and humor. And as a bonus, you get to hear a GREAT story form early in Autumn’s career when she worked with Reba McEntire. You’ll also hear a few anecdotes from some of Autumn’s most famous signings like Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, and Eric Church. AND she’ll cover what she’s looking for when she’s considering signing a new artist. It might surprise you. Come with us as we try to figure out what it means to live this Nashville life.

Autumn, thank you for your encouragement and friendship over the last 5 years. I admire you, and am so grateful for the ways knowing you has shaped me and my music. XO
