It’s CMA Awards day…and today is all about celebrating great music (and let’s be honest, it’s also about commercialism and politics,) but at it’s core I still believe the CMA is about supporting, empowering, and celebrating the music that makes the country world go round.
SO….in that spirit, here are some things I am loving this month.
A few highlights:
Elle King‘s “America’s Sweetheart” (her current single “Ex’s and Oh’s” made it from the alt format, onto Top 40 stations.)
Justin Moore‘s new one: “You Look Like I Need A Drink.” Y’all I am a SUCKER for this kind of hook. I love messing up a cliche phrase and making it mean something else. I also love a play on words…check it out. Good writing guys!
Alessia Cara‘s smash ‘Here.” Sick sick sexy groove. And lyrically interesting, if not a little pouty.
Ben Rector‘s “Like The World Is Gonna End.” But guys, this whole ALBUM. If you’re bored of all the “crazy” themed singles on country radio… boasting about wild nights and parties that nobody ever really goes too…Ben’s song “Crazy” is for you. I don’t like the talking intro…but the song is great, and so well written. Another GEM on this album is “Men Who Drive Me Places.”
Grace Potter, let’s be friends!!! This new album, Midnight, is so great. I love the production– it’s interesting but not weird for weird’s sake. I put “Empty Heart” on the playlist, but love so many things from this album.
Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind.” Which was written by one of my absolute writing idols, Lori McKenna. Just listen, and be thankful there are people out there that wanna write songs like this, and live lives that stay humble and kind.
What did I miss? Let me know and I’ll listen to it! XX and thank you for reading.
