Acoustic Sessions: Ex To See

The Grammys are February 15th. Just a little over a month away. So in the next few weeks we’ve decided to do covers that have some kind of Grammy connection. This week, we’re covering “Ex To See” off Sam Hunt’s Grammy nominated album Montevello. Sam is also nominated for Best New Artist (all-genre.)  For the full list of Grammy nominees click here.

This is what it looks like when Teddy (a childhood friend a fellow musician) and I try to take a Sam Hunt lyric from a male to female perspective. The lyric in question was “fixing your makeup like it’s about to go down.”

* Please note this is 1/12 of the amount of actual text messages.

Seriously, I can overthink how many shots of espresso to have in my latte so…..Sheesh.

So let’s just get to the cover. I really loved the idea of covering Sam. He truly has charted his own course musically, stylistically, as a writer, and he’s gotten both praise and criticism for it.  But, in my opinion, the album sales and nominations speak for themselves. If you missed my fashion piece with the stylist that works with Sam (and me, and Luke Bryan) you can read it here. Here’s EX TO SEE. Enjoy! XO

Kelleigh, Having had the pleasure of hearing you do an acoustic set, it saddens me that your albums are being held hostage by the record label. After the money spent to send you on a radio tour (That’s how I saw you in Harrisburg, PA) and the money spent on recording the albums, it seems they’re not trying to hard to recoup their losses.

Thank you for sharing any music you can whether it’s a cover or a stripped down original. Personally I prefer stripped down acoustic guitar or piano versions of songs because this is what the songwriter heard when they were creating it and it’s the purest form of the song you can get. I’m always amazed at how a song can change when it’s covered by a full band and the electronics that are added during the studio magic portion of the recording process.

I’m hoping that one day I’ll be able to go into Wally World or Target and see your name in the stacks right near Moe Bandy, The Band Perry, and The Bellamy Brothers!

    Peace and hugs from PA!
